My LL asked if I could help find her tenants for downstairs apartment, but no black people Should I report her?

We live in the upstairs of a 2 family home in NY (Long Island). Recently the downstairs tenants were evicted due to non-payment. My LL asked if I could help find new tenants (place an ad on CL, etc…). I initially thought that this would be great, because maybe I could have a say in who lived beneath us (the last tenants were horrible).

My LL told me she did not want to rent to a black person. I felt this was horrible. Should I report her to anyone, and if so, who?

Is it possible to get aprroved to rent an appartment if you don’t have great credit?

I am 21 years old, and about to begin my senior year of college. One of my best friends, her old roomate and I have just found the deal of a lifetime. We are looking for an apartment that is closer to our schools in the Bronx, NY because we currently live in Long Island and the commute to school and work in the city is becomming very difficult.

We found a beautiful place about 15 minutes away from school. It is $1650 for a 3 bedroom complex, which translates to about $550 each per month plus a little bit more for electricity because all of the other utitilites re included.

Both of my friends are having their mothers sign as a joint applicant, but my mother is not as kind. She refuses to help because she says that if I want to move out, then I have to do it on my own. I am disspointed because she has FLAWLESS credit and would have approved my chances to get the place. I am afraid that if I apply on my own, I will not get apporved because my credit is not in great shape.
I’d also like to add that the reason my credit is not wonderful is because I made poor spending choices when I was younger, but I am actively trying to approve my credit score. I would also like to add that I hve been employed since I was 17 years old, so I do not have difficulty finding job.
Thank you all so much for your responses.

Living in New York (Renting)?

Hello,

I am an 18 year old female, and I have lived my whole life in Australia. I need a change. Badly. In 2011, I am planning to spend a minimum of a year in New York, and after that year I will decide whether or not to stay there or come back to Australia.

Obviously being that it is only 2009 I can’t really find a place to live yet, but I have been looking at apartments and houses for rent online, but I am struggling to find an apartment that will allow me to bring my pet cavoodle (cavalier X toy poodle) with me.

I am wanting to live in Long Island, New York, but I have been told that it can get quite expensive. Realistically I am thinking I will be able to afford rent under $900USD a month, so how would I go about finding a pet friendly apartment/house, in Long Island that is less than $900USD a month? I will be going by myself so I would like to be living in a decent area…

Thanks in advance!

Also, as I am going to need plenty of advice about this particular area of America, so if anyone has lived there or does live there, and doesn’t mind giving me advice could you please let me know, thanks! :)

I’m a homeowner, but i live in a rented apartment?

My mother heard that some states have a tax rebate for people who own a home, but rent a place closer to work.

I recently purchased a home in Long Island, NY. In June I moved to Murfreesboro, TN for a new job. I’m renting an apartment here in TN.

Does anybody know if I qualify for this refund? Do I need an accountant to file for it, or are there any DIY on-line programs that would let me claim that?

Thanks for any advice, this is the first time I’m taking care of all my own taxes, and I’m nervous!

Jersey shore summer rentals?

I’m looking to rent a house/condo/apartment in Long Beach Island, NJ for the entire summer. I’m having a problem finding places to rent because they’re weekly rentals, not for the season. So if you know of any sites that offer rentals for the whole season, or you or someone else has a house for the season, please let me know! :)

Obama Club: Not just another cheesy karaoke club!
Shanghaiist reader Jordan Rosenberg writes in to correct us about the club that everyone’s been waiting for : One of my former co-workers is now working with the club, and threw a relatively small gathering for their birthday there a few weeks ago, which I had the good fortune of attending. I’ll admit, the styling is a bit typically Chinese gaudy, but I have to disagree on it being “yet another …
